Description
The Pastorate of Our Lady, consisting of Our Lady of Sorrows (West River, MD) and Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Edgewater, MD) churches, seeks candidates for a Pastorate Director of Liturgical Music. With the guidance of the pastor, the Pastorate Director of Liturgical Music will be responsible for the music ministry and coordinating all aspects of sacred music for weekend Masses, Holy Days, Sacramental celebrations, funerals, devotions and some holidays. Build, support, and sustain a strong and vibrant ministry of music, grounded in the spirit of Vatican II, the quality of which encourages and supports a prayerful, singing congregation, fostering continued growth in song and celebration. This is a part-time, non-benefit eligible position, working 12-15 weekly hours. Primarily, responsibilities will be at Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
Essential Functions

Plan music selections and serve as lead accompanist for Masses and other liturgical celebrations at Our Lady of Sorrows. Weekend Masses are Saturday at 4:30pm and Sunday at 8:00 and 10:30 am.

Distribute selections to musicians (including choir and cantors) at Our Lady of Sorrows.

Conduct weekly (Wednesday evening) choir rehearsals and warm-ups before liturgies at Our Lady of Sorrows.

Collaborate with pastorate Liturgy Committees (including Pastor) to enrich liturgical themes.

Utilize both contemporary and traditional music. Introduce new and cross-cultural music.

Optimize skills of volunteer music ministers through efforts such as transposition and modifying harmonies. Recruit, provide direction and support for, and foster community spirit among pastorate music ministers. Facilitate participation in resources and opportunities.

Support planning of music and musicians for pastorate weddings and funerals.

Collaborate in planning special pastorate celebrations and hosted musical events.

Oversee good stewardship and orderliness of church, musical equipment, and choir areas at Our Lady of Sorrows.

Recruit, evaluate and schedule extra and/or substitute musicians when needed at either parish.

Seek personal, professional and ministerial development and formation.

Collaborate in preparing and administering annual budget for liturgical music for each parish.

At Our Lady of Sorrows, develop and maintain choral library, ordering new music as necessary.

Schedule tuning, maintenance, and repairs as necessary for pastorate musical instruments.

Work cooperatively with the OLPH Sunday Music Minister and the OLPH Spanish Music Ministry when necessary.

Attend pastorate staff meetings as time permits.

Communicate faithfully with the Pastor and pastorate staff.

Ensure compliance with copyright requirements.
Position Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or greater, in Music or related field strongly preferred.

A warm and engaging disposition is needed. Must be calm under pressure.

Must be proficient in piano accompaniment, choral conducting, and vocal coaching. Proficiency in organ accompaniment highly desirable.

Minimum three years prior experience as a liturgical musician or director of liturgical music preferably in a Catholic parish.

Strong working knowledge of the treasury of sacred music, particularly within Catholic Church tradition; ability to integrate appropriate sacred music into each liturgical season and celebration.

Good working knowledge of Catholic liturgical rites, including Sacramental celebrations, and the liturgical documents of the Catholic Church, particularly as they relate to sacred music.

Strong organizational, pastoral, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.

Practicing Catholic preferred.
Range: $125/Mass, $125/Rehearsal, $27-30/Hour (Total hours per week: 12-15)
